The latest of these idiots? The so-called Reverend Terry Jones. It is his right, of course, to take any actions or make any statements not illegal he feels necessary. And admirably, he is apparently quite unconcerned with the consequences these actions may have on his own person. Having said that, there are two major things which bother me about the situation he has created.
First, while he has the right to do and say as he feels from the stand point of him personally, he must take responsibility for the consequences to others! His cavalier attitude about the lives of soldiers and what their mothers feel is typical of the fanatic.
His crass lack of concern for others puts him in the same category as the Islamic extremists! To me there is no difference between someone blowing themselves up to kill others - innocent or otherwise - and deliberately performing an act which places others in a position of extreme threat to their lives. The end result is the same: loss of life and/or health.
Whatever happened to the basic idea that every person's freedom stops at another person's nose? It is an extremely simple description of everyone's basic rights.
The Reverend Jones seems to have forgotten that this country was founded on the premise of equality and tolerance of religion and religious beliefs (among other things). Should he choose to ignore that idea, he can always move to another country.
The second thing about the Reverend Jones situation is the financial cost to me and every other citizen of this country! He deliberately put himself in harm's way. Why not put him in the same category as those who deliberately and voluntarily put themselves at risk in the wilderness - make him bear the cost of protecting him just as the rescued person pays for the rescue.
I applaud the FBI and other police organizations involved in protecting this guy and I understand their major - stated - concern is for the neighbors of this idiot. The Reverend Jones has put both them and the authorities at risk, also. I just object to having to bear the cost of protecting damned fools!
I repeat: too many people today seem NOT to THINK about the consequences of their actions.
To make matters even worse? I would be willing to bet this knucklehead hasn't even read the Quran!
